The Way The Jazz Man Held His Sax

He held his sax like a baby.
He was rocking it to sleep.
As the others played their breaks.
Like the embrace of a lover,
He held that sax tight against his body.
Meanwhile the band played on.
He tightly held that saxophone.
He played it once again,
Softly and smooth like a trane coming through.

He held that sax like a baby.
Sax man leaned and bent swaying with the music.
He lived the music, he was the music.
He put every ounce of soul and emotion inside of him, Into that music. And when it was all over,

He held that sax like a baby.
With all the reverence of a lovers embrace.
Like jazz was a sacred religion,
And this spot on the market place
Was his holy ground.

WOW!! The first comment of 2010!!!

Knowing you as a teen in the "church circle" and seeing you grow into the wonderful man that you are today has been both an honor and a pleasure. For God has truly blessed you with a great gift and talent.

Watching and hearing you play, with such passion makes the difference in hearing someone play "just because" they know how to play, and someone playing because they have the zeal and the passion to play.

Your versatility speaks for itself, and will take you a long way! I am anticipating what God is going to do in your life! I can see major opportunities and major blessings coming your way! As long as God is the head of your life, which I KNOW He is, there is nothing you can't achieve. It is my prayer that God gives you all the desires of your heart!

I thank God for the opportunity to be able to spend time with such a wonderful, funny, laid back, cool, handsome, talented, gifted, oh and did I say handsome (lol) gentleman that you are!

I will continue to pray for you, and have your back!

First I come from a family of musicians and artist and when I first heard you play the sax at FAME Oakland a few years ago I knew you were blessed with a talent to play...Whenever I bring a guest to church I always tell them I hope the guy that plays the sax is there you're gonna love it and your spirit will propel...and I always get a response - you ain't neva lied gurl - that man can play!!! So let me thank you for always lifting spirits and stirring it up so our hearts are light and ready to receive the message on Sunday mornings.

I had the surprise pleasure of hearing you and the band at "Sunday's in the Redwoods" yesterday 10-4-09...Yall raised the energy of the crowd, left us wanting more and made for an enjoyable afternoon. My sister and I kept thinking where else does he play... so I'm signed up and look forward to seeing where you are next and hoping I can check yall out! Keep doin' what your doin' cause what your doin' is GREAT!!!

Peace,
Lydia

Stabe...congrats/blessings, etc..all of the adjectives you can identify! So proud of your accomplishments and direction. Continue to place God first as door after door opens! Remember me, when I'm trying to "get back stage" to see ya.

Still Your girl ( never ending admiration) returns...

April 16, 2009

I had you for the moment.
Front and center -and you killed it blowing your horn.
That moment that seemed like an eternity that night - and the next night - and the night after that...
You in the spotlight with your horn.
I gotta go see my boy! Set my pride aside and go on the ride and enjoy every moment of the adventure - for my good time .....
My Spirit reborn
in the thrill of the moment
and that (Music) I love so much and you know it.
Soft and warm in that quiet storm of the wonderful gentleman You -Stabe Wilson -
I hear you and see that glistening instrument in my sleep. Beautiful -like christmas Eve.
I miss you - God Bless You.
Reach as many as you can with your music Saxxy 1.

When I saw you -
I heard you....
Been paying attention and listening every chance I could get- even at a distance
I remain silent and invisible yet
--(right before your eyes)...
while
I study your style - hearing the rhythm and your rhyme - the smooth jazz kind --
keeping time-- and makeing up my own lyrics
as you go. Continue to blow - You KNOW ''
and then,
I- leave quietly not even saying hello or good bye - 'cause its your time, and I'm not groopie -follower type---- so I go.--
Leave the venue with the music and a feeling....
-------and more than you know ------
I'll keep anonymous...
Not like a stalker - I'm actually closer
than you admit or have realized - My heart you won't know and my words.... I'll show --
but until you call
... I'm anonymous.
Like You - called "Beautiful" - I am vibrant and alive in the magic of the moment that the music provides - and time goes bu until the next performance . . . and I can't do nothing about it-but -- Stay Anonymous.
So - with that ---I'll stand back and take a chance if I will - take a ride be cool-and
take it easy I'lljust hide my face, when I walk in the place and make sure that you don't see me-
I'll enjoy what I see --- chase that thrill you give for free when I see
you at that spot
on the block (You) made hot when the ladies went crazy over that that song.
But until next time - I'll be good -You stay fine and all the while - I'll be
--Anonymous.

Invited I arrived -
At the place of dim light
the place where the soul escapes
boredom, restlessness and the
same ‘ol same ‘ol routine.
Into the center of your sound that only
At that moment - I could hear . . .
Leaving behind silence and fear
I – being still – with your attention,
Lost in the music…surrounded by
The sounds interpersonal –saaxy 1 Sational
Ignoring the crowd into your - -
– musical, conversation and…
My heart beating –common senses fleeting
With the liquid flow of tune… stay with me and
Follow the melody –
my head spinning - - up in Smoke.
Dark sky backdrop behind street lights and night chill
And Sound all around,
I finally find myself –at the top of a hill
And I did not want to come down.
( TO be continued. . . .) LOL!

I loved the show at the Oakland Plaza stage today. This band is so different that the one you played with at the Cherry Festival in San Leandro.

This band, in my opinion was a funky California Cusine; the one in San Leandro was a Memphis Soul Stew.

I heard you play at the Oakland Police Department awards ceremony recently and enjoyed the music. My 12-year old son Alejandro has been playing saxophone for about 3 years and his grandfather from Chicago gave him a beautiful new saxophone for Christmans. But Alejandro needs to meet and join a group of young people who continues to inspire him to play. Do you have any recommendations for a group of students/players and a tutor who can work with him? Thank you. Rocio Fierro

November 27, 2006

Hello Stabe -- I'm pleased to find out about you. Will check out your music! Listen, I'm actually trying to track down a fantastic vocalist who I think sings with your group -- Brenda Roy-Matier. Is she the same beautiful singer who has worked with Walter Hawkins? Anyway, I'm asking because I have several Hawkins' CDs and am knocked out by her voice. I'm hoping she has some CDs of her own -- or that there are other recordings that feature her. Do you mind passing this along to her? I'm such an admiring fan -- Thanks. Saw you for the first time at the KBLX Stone Soul Picnic Concert - you and your band were tight! Was very impressed! Impressed enough to call KBLX to find out your name and the name of the group ( I missed the introduction at the concert so had no idea what group was playing) and to look up your website to find out where else you might be playing. Thank you for a lovely day and smashing concert!

Hi Stabe.
I have been a fan for a while and came upon your website at a family member's home. I remember you playing with the Northern Cal chapter all the time and I'm wondering why you don't anymore. Anyway, I'm glad to see that you are doing well as a musician and my prayer is that God will continue to use you to reach the hearts of others. God bless.

Hey Stabe,

We met at Maxwell's on Oct. 14 and your performance was absolutely stunning. (I was the petite woman with a ponytail sitting next to the bar when the guy next to me stopped you.) I can't wait to see you perform again! AND I'm telling ALL my friends about you. :-)
All the best, Erica

Stabe,
The site is very attractive, I must say. I will be going back to Silicon Valley College later this month to continue my own web design education.
Also, sending you photos from your gig at the Claremont...
